NONE OF THESE DISEASES!!!

I AM THE LORD THAT HEALETH THEE

"And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee." Exodus 15:26

This is a wonderful promissed given to God's people- Israel of old! We all may claim such a promises you know but notice how it is preceded by conditions set by the Lord him self.

The diseases here mentioned are the health issues faced by the Egyptians living in the days that Irsraelites dwellers in the land of Goshen - Egypt. They lived there for 400 years until the God, remembering His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; Came down to set them free from bondage and the influence and customs of that pagan civilized nation.  The diseases that were common to the Egyptians are common to day in our own country and the western world. Such as: Tuberculosis, Birth giving complications, Leprosy, Heart and liver problems, arthritis,  diabetes and most of the other modern diseases:

Amazing enough is the fact that their life style was not much different from ours with the exception of modern technology conveniences. They had slaves to do most manual and hard labor work. they were occupied to administrative occupations and did not value exercise and did not follow health principles either. Does it sounds familiar? It certainly does. Does it not? they had also developed  an early version of pharmaceutic and medical practices to include othopcy and embalming of the dead.

What is the solution than, if we want to enjoy health to it's fullest, longevity and not suffer to common health diseases and premature death?

2) MAKE LIFESTYLE CHANGES: http://www.ucheepines.org/
3) DON"T GO WITH THE CROWD:  God's Purpose for Israel

"When God led the children of Israel out of Egypt, it was His purpose to establish them in the land of Canaan a pure, happy, healthy people. Let us look at the means by which He would accomplish this. He subjected them to a course of discipline, which, had it been cheerfully followed, would have resulted in good, both to themselves and to their posterity. He removed flesh food from them in a great measure. He had granted them flesh in answer to their clamors, just before reaching Sinai, but it was furnished for only one day. God might have provided flesh as easily as manna, but a restriction was placed upon the people for their good. It was His purpose to supply them with food better suited to their wants than the feverish diet to which many of them had been accustomed in Egypt. The perverted appetite was to be brought into a more healthy state, that they might enjoy the food originally provided for man,--the fruits of the earth, which God gave to Adam and Eve in Eden."  Counsels on Diet and Foods by E. G. White, 377.4
"Had they been willing to deny appetite in obedience to His restrictions, feebleness and disease would have been unknown among them. Their descendants would have possessed physical and mental strength. They would have had clear perceptions of truth and duty, keen discrimination, and sound judgment. But they were unwilling to submit to God's requirements, and they failed to reach the standard He had set for them, and to receive the blessings that might have been theirs. They murmured at God's restrictions, and lusted after the fleshpots of Egypt. God let them have flesh, but it proved a curse to them."  IBID, 378.1

                An Ensample for Us

                                        1 Cor. 10:6, 11
"Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted." "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."  IBID, 378.2

" The church in general at Battle Creek have not sustained the Institute by their example. They have not honored the light of health reform by carrying it out in their families. The sickness that has visited many families in Battle Creek need not have been, if they had followed the light God has given them. Like ancient Israel, they have disregarded the light, and could see no more necessity of restricting their appetite than did ancient Israel. The children of Israel would have flesh meats, and said, as many now say, We shall die without meat. God gave rebellious Israel flesh, but His curse was with it. Thousands of them died while the meat they desired was between their teeth. We have the example of ancient Israel, and the warning for us not to do as they did. Their history of unbelief and rebellion is left on record as a special warning that we should not follow their example of murmuring at God's requirements. How can we pass on so indifferently, choosing our own course, following the sight of our own eyes, and departing farther and farther from God, as did the Hebrews? God cannot do great things for His people because of their hardness of heart and sinful unbelief."  IBID, 378.3

"We are living in an age of intemperance. Health and life are sacrificed, by very many, to gratify their appetite for hurtful indulgences. These last days are characterized by depreciated morals and physical debility, in consequence of these indulgences and the general unwillingness to engage in physical labor. Many are suffering today from inaction and wrong habits.  E.G.White - ST, January 6, 1876 par. 1
"The majority of the youth of this generation are fond of amusements and afraid of work. They generally lack moral courage to deny appetite and respond to the claims of duty. They have but little self-control, and become excited and passionate on the slightest occasion. Idleness and plenty of money to spend in amusements, exciting pleasures, wines, liquors and tobacco, lay the foundation for disease and ruin. Manhood and virtue are sacrificed upon the altar of lust. Very many of every age and station in life are without principle or conscience, and with spend-thrift habits are rushing into all vices, and are corrupting society, until our world is becoming a second Sodom."  IBID, par. 2
"Gluttonous feasting and the indulgence of narcotics and stimulants, are carried to great lengths even by the Christian world. How many close their last precious hours of probationary time, in scenes of gaiety, feasting and amusement, where serious thoughts are not allowed to enter, where the spirit of Jesus would be unwelcome! Their last precious hours are passing while their minds are benumbed with tobacco and alcoholic liquors. There are not a few who pass directly from the dens of infamy to the sleep of death; they close their life-record among the associations of dissipation and vice. What will the awakening be at the resurrection of the unjust!  IBID, par. 3
"The eye of the Lord is open upon every scene of debasing amusement and profane dissipation. The words and deeds of the pleasure-lovers pass directly from these halls of vice to the Book of final records. What is the life of this class worth to the world, except as a beacon of warning to those who will be warned, not to live like these men, and die as the fool dieth. The apostle thus entreats, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."  IBID, par. 4
"When we pursue a course of eating and drinking that lessens physical and mental vigor, or become the prey of habits that tend to the same results, we dishonor God, for we rob him of the service he claims from us. Those who acquire and indulge the unnatural appetite for tobacco, do this at the expense of health. They are destroying nervous energy, lessening vital force and sacrificing mental strength."  IBID, par. 5
"Those who profess to be the followers of Christ yet have this terrible sin at their door, cannot have a high appreciation of the atonement and an elevated estimate of eternal things. Minds that are clouded and partially paralyzed by narcotics, are easily overcome by temptation, and cannot enjoy communion with God."  IBID, par. 6
"Those who use tobacco can make but a poor plea to the liquor inebriate. Two-thirds of the drunkards in our land created an appetite for liquor by the use of tobacco. Those who claim that tobacco does not injure them, can be convinced of their mistake by depriving themselves of it for a few days; the trembling nerves, the giddy head, the irritability they feel, will prove to them that this sinful indulgence has bound them in slavery. It has overcome will power. They are in bondage to a vice that is fearful in its results." IBID,  par. 7
"The love of tobacco is a warring lust. Means are thereby squandered that would aid in the good work of clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, and sending the truth to poor souls out of Christ. What a record will appear when the accounts of life are balanced in the book of God! It will then appear that vast sums of money have been expended for tobacco and alcoholic liquors! For what? To ensure health and prolong life? Oh, no! To aid in the perfection of Christian character and a fitness for the society of holy angels? Oh, no! But to minister to a depraved, unnatural appetite for that which poisons and kills not only the user but those to whom he transmits his legacy of disease and imbecility. God does not propose to work a miracle to preserve our health and strength which we are daily injuring by vice and habits of hurtful indulgence."  IBID, par. 8
" Food prepared with condiments and spices inflames the stomach, corrupts the blood and paves the way to stronger stimulants. It induces nervous debility, impatience and lack of self-control. Tobacco and the wine-cup follow." IBID, par. 9

" All stimulants hurry the human machinery too fast, and although, for the time, activity and vigor may seem to be increased, in proportion to the irritating influence employed, there must be a reaction; a debility will follow corresponding in degree to the unnatural excitement that has been produced." IBID, par. 13
"When this debility is felt, something to stimulate and tone up the system is again used to give immediate relief from disagreeable languor. Nature is gradually educated to rely upon this oft-repeated remedy, until her powers are enfeebled by being often aroused to unnatural action. All persons should become acquainted with the laws of their being. It should be an important subject of study, how to live, how to regulate labor, and how to eat and drink in reference to health."  IBID, par. 14
"The more simply and naturally we live the better shall we be able to resist epidemic and disease. If our habits are good and the system is not weakened by unnatural action, Nature will furnish all the stimulus that we require." IBID,   par. 15
If men and women perseveringly live in accordance with the laws of life and of health, they will realize the blessed results of an entire health reform. But many make a mistake at the very commencement of their reform. They go to extremes. They carry their ideas too far. Their views in regard to healthful diet are too narrow. They have the same articles of food upon their tables, with scarcely a variation, from week to week, and from month to month. They take no pains to prepare fruits and grains in an inviting as well as healthful manner, and, after this course has been rigidly followed for a while, they decide that they cannot follow out the principles of health reform, and go back to their former manner of living." IBID, par. 16

"Some get the idea that to adopt the health reform is to subsist upon the very cheapest food prepared with the least labor. This is not true. It is a libel on the principles of health reform. The human system must have nourishment, and all cannot relish the same dishes. So when the table is spread with the same article of food, prepared in the same way, meal after meal and day after day, some members of the family may be well satisfied and enjoying their food very much, while others may be only able to eat sparingly of one dish and the wants of the system will not be met; for it is a fact that some persons cannot relish, or be nourished by articles of food which others enjoy and thrive upon. But every person may do much towards educating the taste and appetite to relish plain and healthful food, such as graham bread and oat-meal gruel, and various vegetables, even if they are at first distasteful to them." IBID,   par. 18
"The rule which some recommend, is to eat whenever there is a sense of hunger, and to eat until satisfied. This course will lead to disease and numerous evils. Appetite at the present day is not generally natural, therefore is not a correct index to the wants of the system. It has been pampered and misdirected until it has become morbid and can no longer be a safe guide. Nature has been abused, her efforts crippled by wrong habits and indulgence in sinful luxuries, until taste and appetite are alike perverted. It is unnatural to have a craving for flesh-meats. It was not thus in the beginning. The appetite for meat has been made and educated by man. Our Creator has furnished us, in vegetables, grain, and fruits, all the elements of nutrition necessary to health and strength. Flesh-meats composed no part of the food of Adam and Eve before their fall. If fruits, vegetables and grains are not sufficient to meet the wants of man, then the Creator made a mistake in providing for Adam."  IBID, par. 19
"The habits of the age are serious obstacles to the perfecting of Christian character. Physically we are composed of what we eat, and our minds are greatly influenced by our bodies. If we subsist largely upon the flesh of animals, the animal nature is increased in like proportion. Man is sufficiently animal in his nature without cultivating those propensities by the eating of food which stimulates and excites the animal organs to activity. As these propensities are strengthened the mental and moral powers are diminished."  IBID, par. 20
"God did not withhold meat from the Hebrews in the wilderness simply to show his authority, but for their good, that they might preserve physical and moral strength. He knew that the use of animal food strengthens the animal passions and enfeebles the intellect. He knew that the gratification of the appetite of the Hebrews for flesh-meats, would weaken their moral powers, and induce such an irritable disposition that the vast army would become insubordinate, that they would lose the high sense of their moral obligations, and refuse to be controlled by the wise laws of Jehovah. Violence and rebellion would exist among them, making it impossible for them to be a pure and happy people in the land of Canaan. God knew what was best for the children of Israel, therefore he deprived them in a great measure of flesh-meats."  IBID, par. 21
"Satan tempted them to consider this unjust and cruel. He caused them to lust after forbidden things, because he saw that through the indulgence of perverted appetite they would become carnally-minded and could be easily brought to do his will; the lower organs would be strengthened, while the intellectual and moral powers would be weakened."  IBID, par. 22

"God requires that his people should be temperate in all things, The example of Christ, during that long fast in the wilderness, should teach his followers to repulse Satan when he comes under the guise of appetite. Then may they have influence to reform those who have been led astray by indulgence, and have lost moral power to overcome the weakness and sin that has taken possession of them. Thus may Christians secure health and happiness, in a pure, well-ordered life and a mind clear and untainted before God."

TRUE FACTS ABOUT INTEMPERANCE

INTEMPERANCE

“And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.”  Genesis 9:20,21

“The pure juice of the grape, free from fermentation, is a wholesome drink.” E.G.White on Temperance, 93.3
“Cider and wine(fruit juice) may be canned when fresh, and kept sweet a long time, and if used in an unfermented state, they will not dethrone reason.--. IBID, 93.4

Noah and his sons and families begun to dwell on the earth after the flood and, even if they had not been gardeners and farmers before the flood they were to engage in it from now on. Where the record says Noah began to be an “husbandman”=  2. A farmer; a cultivator or tiller of the ground. Therefore Noah planted a vineyard. There is very few people who do not enjoy the juice of fresh grape juice. It is healthy and delicious. The scripture however brings out something beyond that. It says that he became intoxicated by it. Did he drink too large of a quantity or had it gone bad on him? We do not know. Just like most wine and beer consumers. The good juice must of fermented and had enough alcohol content to make him loose his perceptions. One may very well excuse the action on his conditions and the loss of every thing dear before the flood, etc. Whatever the cause He was found drunk!

Well said the bible: “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” Proverbs 20:1 Unfortunatly very few people listen to the wise counsel of the scriptures, specially during holidays!

“Persons may become just as really intoxicated on wine and cider as on stronger drinks, and the worst kind of inebriation is produced by these so-called milder drinks. The passions are more perverse; the transformation of character is greater, more determined, and obstinate. A few quarts of cider or sweet wine may awaken a taste for stronger drinks, and many who have become confirmed drunkards have thus laid the foundation of the drinking habit.”  Temperance, 94.5

“A Possible Precursor to Habitual Drunkenness.--A single glass of wine may open the door of temptation which will lead to habits of drunkenness” IBID, 95.1

“Diseased Condition Resulting From Use of Cider.--A tendency to disease of various kinds, as dropsy, liver complaint, trembling nerves, and a determination of blood to the head, results from the habitual use of sour cider. By its use, many bring upon themselves permanent diseases. Some die of consumption or fall under the power of apoplexy from this cause alone. Some suffer from dyspepsia. Every vital function refuses to act, and the physicians tell them that they have liver complaint, when if they would break in the head of the cider barrel, and never give way to the temptation to replace it, their abused life forces would recover their vigor.”  Temperance, 95.2

Effects of Wine After the Flood.--The world had become so corrupt through indulgence of appetite and debased passion in the days of Noah that God destroyed its inhabitants by the waters of the Flood. And as men again multiplied upon the earth, the indulgence in wine to intoxication, perverted the senses, and prepared the way for excessive meat eating and the strengthening of the animal passions. Men lifted themselves up against the God of Heaven; and their faculties and opportunities were devoted to glorifying themselves rather than honoring their Creator.” IBID, 95.3

A good definition for temperance is this: “"TRUE TEMPERANCE TEACHES US TO DISPENSE ENTIRELY WITH EVERYTHING HURTFUL AND TO USE JUDICIOUSLY THAT WHICH IS HEALTHFUL." Temperance by E.G.White, 138.

“We are living in an age of intemperance, and catering to the appetite of the ciderbibber is an offense against God.” E.G.White on Counsel on Diet and Foods, page 432. 3

“I cannot see how, in the light of the law of God, Christians can conscientiously engage in the raising of hops or in the manufacture of wine or cider for the market. All these articles may be put to a good use, and prove a blessing; or they may be put to a wrong use, and prove a temptation and a curse. Cider and wine may be canned when fresh, and kept sweet a long time; and if used in an unfermented state, they will not dethrone reason....  IBID, 432.5

“ Moderate drinking is the school in which men are receiving an education for the drunkard's career. So gradually does Satan lead away from the strongholds of temperance, so insidiously do the harmless wine and cider exert their influence upon the taste, that the highway to drunkenness is entered upon all unsuspectingly. The taste for stimulants is cultivated; the nervous system is disordered; Satan keeps the mind in a fever of unrest, and the poor victim, imagining himself perfectly secure, goes on and on, until every barrier
is broken down, every principle sacrificed. The strongest resolutions are undermined; and eternal interests are not strong enough to keep the debased appetite under the control of reason.  IBID,  433.2
“Some are never really drunk, but are always under the influence of cider or fermented wine. They are feverish, unbalanced in mind, not really delirious, but in fully as bad a condition; for all the noble powers of the mind are perverted. A tendency to disease of various kinds, as dropsy, liver complaint, trembling nerves, and a determination of blood to the head, results from the habitual use of sour cider. By its use many bring upon themselves permanent disease. Some die of consumption or fall under the power of apoplexy from this cause alone. Some suffer from dyspepsia. Every vital function is deadened and the physicians tell them that they have liver complaint, when if they would break open the cider barrel, and never replace it, their abused life forces would recover their vigor.” IBID, 434.1

“Cider drinking leads to the use of stronger drinks. The stomach loses its natural vigor, and something stronger is needed to arouse it to action. . . . We see the power that appetite for strong drink has over men; we see how many of all professions and of heavy responsibilities--men of exalted station, of eminent talents, of great attainments, of fine feelings, of strong nerves, and of good reasoning powers-- sacrifice everything for the indulgence of appetite, until they are reduced to the level of the brutes; and in very many cases their downward course commenced with the use of wine or cider.”  IBID, 434.2

Much misery and even death has resulted from the use of wine and strong drinks!  Thousands more die every year from the result of intoxicating drinks and driving. Well said the Bible: “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;” Ephesians 5:18

DIET ALTERATIONS

THE ORIGINAL DIET ALTERED

Men's original diet was composed of: "…every herb bearing seed,[Grains, legumes and vegetables] which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed [All variety of fruits that have seed in them];  to you shall be for meat." Gen. 1:29  The lord God, the creator of man kind had prescribed also the most healthy and best suited diet. And the record says: " And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Gen. 1:31. If it was very good, that means it could not be altered. Why was it than necessary to be altered?

"In order to know what are the best foods, we must study God's original plan for man's diet. He who created man and who understands his needs appointed Adam his food. "Behold," He said, "I have given you every herb yielding seed, . . . and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food." Genesis 1:29, A.R.V. Upon leaving Eden to gain his livelihood by tilling the earth under the curse of sin, man received permission to eat also "the herb of the field." Genesis 3:18. " Ministry of Healing, 295.3
"Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet." IBID, 296.1
But not all foods wholesome in themselves are equally suited to our needs under all circumstances. Care should be taken in the selection of food. Our diet should be suited to the season, to the climate in which we live, and to the occupation we follow. Some foods that are adapted for use at one season or in one climate are not suited to another. So there are different foods best suited for persons in different occupations. Often food that can be used with benefit by those engaged in hard physical labor is unsuitable for persons of sedentary pursuits or intense mental application. God has given us an ample variety of healthful foods, and each person should choose from it the things that experience and sound judgment prove to be best suited to his own necessities."  IBID, 296.2

"Meat is not essential for health or strength, else the Lord made a mistake when He provided food for Adam and Eve before their fall. All the elements of nutrition are contained in the fruits, vegetables, and grains." E. G. White - Counsel on Diet and Foods, 395.2

"It is a mistake to suppose that muscular strength depends on the use of animal food. The needs of the system can be better supplied, and more vigorous health can be enjoyed, without its use. The grains, with fruits, nuts, and vegetables, contain all the nutritive properties necessary to make good blood. These elements are not so well or so fully supplied by a flesh diet. Had the use of flesh been essential to health and strength, animal food would have been included in the diet appointed man in the beginning." IBID,395.3

1) The original diet was modified to suit men's living conditions after the flood.
During the flood every living thing: trees, herbs and bushes - all vegetation had been washed off the surface of the earth and it would take several years to be replenished. Therefore the Lord God said:
9:3   Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
9:4   But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat." Genesis 9:3,4.

"The diet appointed man in the beginning did not include animal food. Not till after the Flood, when every green thing on the earth had been destroyed, did man receive permission to eat flesh."  E. G. White - Ministry of Healing, 311.1
In choosing man's food in Eden, the Lord showed what was the best diet; IBID, 311.2.

"The whole surface of the earth was changed at the flood. A third dreadful curse now rested upon it in consequence of man's transgression. The beautiful trees and shrubbery bearing flowers were destroyed, yet Noah preserved seed and took it with him in the ark, and God by his miraculous power preserved a few of the different kinds of trees and shrubs alive for future generations. Soon after the flood trees and plants seemed to spring out of the very rocks. In God's providence seeds were scattered and driven into the crevices of the rocks and there securely hid for the future use of man.  E.G.White - Spiritual Gifts, vol.3, 76.2

2) To decrease life span to 120 years.

The biblical record is: [6:3]"And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. [6:5] "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. " Genesis 6:3, 5.

"It is a law of the human mind that by beholding we become changed. Man will rise no higher than his conceptions of truth, purity, and holiness. If the mind is never exalted above the level of humanity, if it is not uplifted by faith to contemplate infinite wisdom and love, the man will be constantly sinking lower and lower. The worshipers of false gods clothed their deities with human attributes and passions, and thus their standard of character was degraded to the likeness of sinful humanity. They were defiled in consequence. "God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. . . . The earth also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence." God had given men His commandments as a rule of life, but His law was transgressed, and every conceivable sin was the result. The wickedness of men was open and daring, justice was trampled in the dust, and the cries of the oppressed reached unto heaven." E.G.White - Patriarchs and Prophets, 91.2
"Polygamy had been early introduced, contrary to the divine arrangement at the beginning. The Lord gave to Adam one wife, showing His order in that respect. But after the Fall, men chose to follow their own sinful desires; and as the result, crime and wretchedness rapidly increased. Neither the marriage relation nor the rights of property were respected. Whoever coveted the wives or the possessions of his neighbor, took them by force, and men exulted in their deeds of violence. They delighted in destroying the life of animals; and the use of flesh for food rendered them still more cruel and bloodthirsty, until they came to regard human life with astonishing indifference." IBID, 91.3
"The world was in its infancy; yet iniquity had become so deep and widespread that God could no longer bear with it; and He said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth." He declared that His Spirit should not always strive with the guilty race. If they did not cease to pollute with their sins the world and its rich treasures, He would blot them from His creation, and would destroy the things with which He had delighted to bless them; He would sweep away the beasts of the field, and the vegetation which furnished such an abundant supply of food, and would transform the fair earth into one vast scene of desolation and ruin."  IBID, 92.1

"The people who lived before the flood ate animal food and gratified their lusts until their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood. Then the third dreadful curse rested upon the earth. The first curse was pronounced upon the posterity of Adam and upon the earth, because of disobedience. The second curse came upon the ground after Cain slew his brother Abel. The third most dreadful curse from God came upon the earth at the flood."  E.G. White on Counsel on Diet and Foods, 373.2.
"After the flood the people ate largely of animal food. God saw that the ways of man were corrupt, and that he was disposed to exalt himself proudly against his Creator and to follow the inclinations of his own heart. And He permitted that long-lived race to eat animal food to shorten their sinful lives. Soon after the flood the race began to rapidly decrease in size, and in length of years."  IBID, 373.3

What is then the best diet for men today? The original diet given by the creator or the altered diet permitted after the flood?

"The inhabitants of the Old World were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh meats, although God had given them no permission to eat animal food. They ate and drank to excess, and their depraved appetites knew no bounds. They gave themselves up to abominable idolatry. They became violent and ferocious, and so corrupt that God could bear with them no longer. Their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood. As men multiplied upon the face of the earth after the flood, they forgot God, and corrupted their ways before Him. Intemperance in every form increased to a great extent."  E.G.White - Counsel on Diet and Foods, 373.4

"Those who eat flesh are but eating grains and vegetables at second hand; for the animal receives from these things the nutrition that produces growth. The life that was in the grains and vegetables passes into the eater. We receive it by eating the flesh of the animal. How much better to get it direct, by eating the food that God provided for our use!"  E. G. White - Ministry of Healing, 313.1
"Flesh was never the best food; but its use is now doubly objectionable, since disease in animals is so rapidly increasing. Those who use flesh foods little know what they are eating. Often if they could see the animals when living and know the quality of the meat they eat, they would turn from it with loathing. People are continually eating flesh that is filled with tuberculous and cancerous germs. Tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases are thus communicated."  IBID, 313.2
"The tissues of the swine swarm with parasites. Of the swine God said, "It is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass." Deuteronomy 14:8.  This command was given because swine's flesh is unfit for food. Swine are scavengers, and this is the only use they were intended to serve. Never, under any circumstances, was their flesh to be eaten by human beings. It is impossible for the flesh of any living creature to be wholesome when filth is its natural element and when it feeds upon every detestable thing."  IBID, 313.3
"Often animals are taken to market and sold for food when they are so diseased that their owners fear to keep them longer. And some of the processes of fattening them for market produce disease. Shut away from the light and pure air, breathing the atmosphere of filthy stables, perhaps fattening on decaying food, the entire body soon becomes contaminated with foul matter."  IBID, 314.1
"Animals are often transported long distances and subjected to great suffering in reaching a market. Taken from the green pastures, and traveling for weary miles over the hot, dusty roads, or crowded into filthy cars, feverish and exhausted, often for many hours deprived of food and water, the poor creatures are driven to their death, that human beings may feast on the carcasses."  IBID, 314.2
"In many places fish become so contaminated by the filth on which they feed as to be a cause of disease. This is especially the case where the fish come in contact with the sewage of large cities. The fish that are fed on the contents of the drains may pass into distant waters and may be caught where the water is pure and fresh. Thus when used as food they bring disease and death on those who do not suspect the danger."  IBID, 314.3
"The effects of a flesh diet may not be immediately realized; but this is no evidence that it is not harmful. Few can be made to believe that it is the meat they have eaten which has poisoned their blood and caused their suffering. Many die of diseases wholly due to meat eating, while the real cause is not suspected by themselves or by others.   IBID 315.1

LONGEVITY NOT BY CHANCE

LONGEVITY  NOT  BY  CHANCE

In the Bible, in the book of Genesis, we find a remarkable record of longevity! In chapter 5:1-32, we read: [5:5]" And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died." [5:8]"And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died." [5:11]" And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died." [5:14]" And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died." [5:17] "And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died." [5:20]"And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died." [5:27]"And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died." [5:31]"And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died." This is so remarkable that some people think it was not true or that years were counted in some other way and so on goes the mind of a skeptic. The fact is that this book was written several hundred years latter by a very educated man named: Moses, who had been educated as royal family in the land of Egypt, during the period of the dynasties and accurate record is available till this day. Now that, they dare not deny it! In fact even today, some peoples live well over 100 years! That is becoming rare do to many social factors we shall evaluate below.

The important question is: why did they live so long? Did they have better medical technology?   Did they have access to the tree of life, or to some longevity magical formula?  No. There is not the slightest indication of that. Again we read in Genises 3:22-24  "3:22   And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
3:23   Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,…  3:24   So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." Human kind no longer had access to the tree of life, they were not permitted to live forever in sin. Than what is the secret? They lived a life style that was closer to God's original plan for man. The Creator had prescribed man's diet and life style for the good of man.

As we have already considered, man's occupation was: to till the ground (Geneses 3:23) and His diet was: a purely vegetarian kind (Geneses 2:29). There was nothing artificial to pollute the earth or degenerate their bodies! No vice: smoking, alcohol drinking, drugs of any kind. No air pollutants, no water pollutants, no chemical fertilizers nor pesticides! But the Bible says: "Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions." Ecclesiastes 7:29.

Would you not like to live as long as they did? Many wealthy folks would give all their fortune in exchange for a few more years of life! Some wish to be sent to space and remain there until science discovers the secret of eternal life. Such however are battling  against the wind. Hoping for something good and even wonderful that only the Creator and Divine Redeemer - Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God can offer:  3:14   And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
3:15   That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
3:16   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
3:17   For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
3:18   He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
3:19   And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." John 3:14-19.  Also: 19:16   And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
19:17   And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Mathew 19:16-26.

"Adam and Eve broke God's law and fell, and the family of Adam must perish. God could not alter or abolish his law to save lost man, who had by his transgression fallen so low that God could not accept any effort he might make to keep that holy, just and good law. Jesus saw the degradation of man, and pitied his hopeless condition. All heaven knew that God could not change or abolish his law to save man. Jesus pitied the fallen race and offered to take the wrath of God upon himself that was due to man, and to suffer in his stead. Said an angel, "Did Jesus come to make void the law of God, and by his death abolish it? No, no. If God's law could have been changed; if it could have been abolished, God would not have given his Son to die a cruel, shameful death." But the fact of Jesus' giving his life for man shows the immutability of God's law. Jesus gave his life to save lost man from the curse or penalty he merited by transgression. He by humbling himself exalted man. He became the stepping-stone to elevate man, that he might lay hold of the virtue of his blood, keep God's law, and be brought back to eat of the fruit of the tree of life to which Adam and Eve forfeited all right. Said the Angel, "Poor, foolish man knows not what he is doing. He has lifted his puny arm against Omnipotence. He has defied God's law. The law of God is the golden link to unite finite man to the infinite God. It links earth to heaven, and man to God." The transgressor is about to meet the great Law-giver over his broken law. The wrath of God has long slumbered, but soon, with terrible justice and crushing weight will his wrath fall upon the transgressor. And that arm that has been stretched forth in rebellion against God's law, and would sever the golden link binding earth to heaven and man to God, will wither while the transgressor shall stand upon his feet. That tongue that has boastingly and proudly spoken against God's law, and has made the fourth commandment of none effect, will consume in his mouth while he stands upon his feet. Terrible will be the fate of those who transgress God's law, and lead others in the same heaven-daring path of rebellion." Spiritual Gifts by E. G. White, Vol. 2, page 274.2.

It is possible and we should do all in our knowledge and ability in order to preserve and improve health. No one can however realize life eternal except through Jesus Christ!

"God does not require His children to deny themselves to the injury of physical strength. He requires them to obey natural law, to preserve physical health. Nature's path is the road He marks out, and it is broad enough for any Christian. God has, with a lavish hand, provided us with rich and varied bounties for our sustenance and enjoyment. But in order for us to enjoy the natural appetite, which will preserve health and prolong life, He restricts the appetite. He says, Beware; restrain, deny, unnatural appetite. If we create a perverted appetite, we violate the laws of our being, and assume the responsibility of abusing our bodies and of bringing disease upon ourselves." Counsels on Diet and Foods, 72.3

"The path of obedience to God is the path of virtue, of health and happiness. The plan of salvation, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, opens up a way whereby man may secure happiness and prolong his days upon the earth, as well as enjoy the favor of heaven, and secure that future life which measures with the life of God. . . . EVE THE MOTHER OF US ALL

Eve the  Mother OF us all

On Genesis 4:1,2 We are told that Adam and Eve like most their descendants, procreated and multiplied just as the Creator had ordained that it should be[Genesis 1:26-28].
4:1   And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
4:2   And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

This was the beginnings of the human race. From the many descendants of  Adam and Eve the world was populated. We all have a common ancestor. We are all related and of the same original blood family. There were no casts, races nor national divisions. It is very unfortunate what society has done to segregate human kind.

Although Eve was beautiful,  healthy,  and  had many offspring's. She was told that because of disobedience and sin, she would suffer and  "in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.  Genesis 3:16.

How true has this been through the centuries. Countless are the number of women that have become invalids and even died during child birth! I am thankful for modern medical intervention that has spared the life of thousands every year. However, it is a proven fact that carring for the mother's health before birth and following healthful habits will promote health to the baby and make birth easier and less painful! http://secretsofpainlesschildbirth.com/PainlessChildbirth/Home.html

In spite of this sorrow and suffering, how many cases is there were mothers cast away their children and even have them killed at or before birth?  Suffering was designed to increase love from the mother to the children. To conceive is a serious business and should not be taken lightly. It implies a life long care and often worry in the part of parents for that child well being. Yet how many seam to have no love for their children?

In the other hand, children are commanded to honor their parents (Exodus 20:12), to obey and honour father and mother with the promises of a long life (Ephesians 6:1-4). Do you know any youth that have rebelled to parental authority? Any more these are not just exception but seam to have become the general rule of behavior! Not just in the home there is rebellion against parental authority, in the school and in the work place the same is often manifested. Our society is plagued with individuals that have not learned the lesson of humble obedience and compliance to rules and laws!

Motherhood - what a privilege to give birth to an innocent child!  What they become is to a great extend dependant on the mother's love, care and the influence of the home.
A counsel to mothers from a popular family counselor and an experienced and successful mother of three: "While rules and restrictions are laid upon them, great care should be taken to show them the Christlike side of your character and not the satanic side. Children need constant watchcare and tender love. Bind them to your hearts, and keep the love as well as the fear of God before them. Fathers and mothers do not control their own spirit and therefore are not fit to govern others. To restrain and caution your children is not all that is required. You have yet to learn to do justly and love mercy, as well as to walk humbly with God. Everything leaves its impress upon the youthful mind. The countenance is studied, the voice has its influence, and the deportment is closely imitated by them. Fretful and peevish fathers and mothers are giving their children lessons which at some period in their lives they would give all the world, were it theirs, could they unlearn. Children must see in the lives of their parents that consistency which is in accordance with their faith. By leading a consistent life and exercising self-control, parents may mold the characters of their children.
Too many cares and burdens are brought into our families, and too little of natural simplicity and peace and happiness is cherished. There should be less care for what the outside world will say and more thoughtful attention to the members of the family circle. There should be less display and affectation
of worldly politeness, and much more tenderness and love, cheerfulness and Christian courtesy, among the members of the household. Many need to learn how to make home attractive, a place of enjoyment. Thankful hearts and kind looks are more valuable than wealth and luxury, and contentment with simple things will make home happy if love be there." BENEFITS OF EXERCISE

BENEFITS OF EXERCISE

On Genesis 3:22-24 we may read: " And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
3:23   Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken."
3:24   So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

There is much that could be said about the final sentence pronounced upon man kind. To some it may seam so terribly unfair! But the reality is that man was warned and given the freedom to choose between good and evil, obedience and disobedience, life and death. As we have already considered in previous Bible Health - articles, our actions bring consequences. Rebellion and transgression of God's commands always brings curses. In the other hand, compliance and obedience results in blessings. One of the greatest blessings to us is physical exercise!

Exercise

The quotations below are taken from: Healthful Living - By E.G. White, Pages 127- 135.

"The human body may be compared to nicely adjusted machinery, which needs care to keep it in running order. One part should not be subjected to constant wear and pressure, while another part is rusting from inaction. While the mind is taxed, the muscles also should have their proportion of exercise. Every young person should learn how many hours may be spent in study, and how much time should be given to physical exercise.-- S. of T., 1886, No. 33."  Healthful Living 127.1
There is quite a difference between weariness and exhaustion.-- S. A., p. 64.  IBID, 127.2
The compression of the waist will not allow free action of the muscles.-- H. R.  IBID, 127.3
    Another precious blessing is proper exercise. -- T., V. II, p. 528.  IBID, 127.4
They( home cooks) should go out and exercise every day, . . . make it their object to do some good, working to the end of benefiting others.-- T., V. II, p. 531.  IBID, 127.5

             Varieties of Exercise

A) Gymnastics

The exercise of one muscle, while others are left with nothing to do, will not strengthen the inactive ones, any more than the continual exercise of one of the organs of the mind will develop and strengthen the organs not brought into use. Each faculty of the mind and each muscle has its distinctive office, and all require to be exercised in order to become properly developed and retain healthful vigor. Each organ and muscle has its work to do in the living organism. Every wheel in the machinery must be a living, active, working wheel. Nature's fine and wonderful works need to be kept in active motion in order to accomplish the object for which they were designed. Each faculty has a bearing upon the others, and all need to be exercised in order to be properly developed. If one muscle of the body is exercised more than another, the one used will become much the larger, and will destroy the harmony and beauty of the development of the system. A variety of exercise will call into use all the muscles of the body.-- T., V. III, pp. 77, 78.  IBID, 127.6
It is not good policy to give up the use of certain muscles because pain is felt when they are exercised. The pain is frequently caused by the effort of nature to give life and vigor to those parts that have become partially lifeless through inaction. The motion of these long disused muscles will cause pain, because nature is awakening them to life.-- T., V. III, p. 78.  IBID, 128.1
     564. Exercise, to be of decided advantage to you, should be systematized, and brought to bear upon the debilitated organs that they may become strengthened by use.-- T., V. III, p. 76.  IBID, 128.2

B) Useful Labor

"When useful labor is combined with study, there is no need of gymnastic exercises; and much more benefit is derived from work performed in the
open air than from indoor exercise. The farmer and the mechanic each have physical exercise; yet the farmer is much the healthier of the two, for nothing short of the invigorating air and sunshine will fully meet the wants of the system. The former finds in his labor all the movements that were ever practised in the gymnasium. And his movement room is the open fields; the canopy of heaven is its roof, the solid earth is its floor.-- S. of T., 1886, No. 33.  IBID, 128.3
"Brethren (Teachers, Pastors Administrators), when you take time to cultivate your gardens, thus gaining the exercise needed to keep the system in good working order, you are just as much doing the work of God as in holding meetings. -- G. W., p. 174.  IBID, 129.1
"If work is performed without the heart's being in it, it is simply drudgery, and the benefit which should result from the exercise is not gained.-- H. R.  IBID, 129.2

C) Passive Exercise

" The movement cure is a great advantage to a class of patients who are too feeble to exercise. But for all who are sick to rely upon it, making it their dependence, while they neglect to exercise their muscles themselves, is a great mistake.-- T., V. III, p. 76.  IBID,129.3
" Many who depend on the movement cure (Therapy), could accomplish more for themselves by muscular exercise than the movements can do for them.-- T., V. III, p. 78.  IBID, 129.4

D) Walking

"There is no exercise that can take the place of walking. By it the circulation of the blood is greatly improved. . . . Walking, in all cases where it is possible, is the best remedy for diseased bodies, because in this exercise all of the organs of the body are brought into use.-- T., V. III, p. 78.  IBID, 129.5
" When the weather will permit, all who can possibly do so ought to walk in the open air every day, summer and winter. . . . A walk, even in winter, would be more beneficial to the health than all the medicine the doctors may prescribe. For those who can walk, walking is preferable to riding. The muscles and veins are enabled better to perform their work. There will be increased vitality, which is so necessary to health. The lungs will have needful action; for it is impossible to go out in the bracing air of a winter's morning without inflating the lungs.-- T., V. II, p. 529.  IBID, 130.1
" There is no exercise that will prove as beneficial to every part of the body as walking. Active walking in the open air will do more for women, to preserve them in health if they are well, than any other means. Walking is also one of the most efficient remedies for the recovery of health of the invalid. The hands and arms are exercised as well as the limbs.-- H. R.  IBID, 130.2

F) When to Exercise

" Exercise will aid the work of digestion. To walk out after a meal, hold the head erect, put back the shoulders, and exercise moderately, will be a great benefit. The mind will be diverted from self to the beauties of nature. The less the attention is called to the stomach after a meal, the better.-- T., V. II, p. 530.  IBID, 130.3
"Morning exercise, in walking in the free, invigorating air of heaven, or cultivating flowers, small fruits, and vegetables, is necessary to a healthful
circulation of the blood. It is the surest safeguard against colds, coughs, congestions of the brain and lungs, inflammation of the liver, the kidneys, and the lungs, and a hundred other diseases.-- H. R.  IBID, 130.4
"A large class of women are content to hover over the stove, breathing impure air for one half or three fourths of the time, until the brain is heated and half benumbed. They should go out and exercise every day, even though some things indoors have to be neglected. They need the cool air to quiet distracted brains.-- T., V. II, p. 531.  IBID, 131.1
"Neither study nor violent exercise should be engaged in immediately after a full meal; this would be  a violation of the laws of the system. Immediately after eating there is a strong draught upon the nervous energy. The brain force is called into active exercise to assist the stomach; therefore, when mind or body is taxed heavily after eating, the process of digestion is hindered. The vitality of the system, which is needed to carry on the work in one direction, is called away and set to work in another.-- T., V. II, p. 413.  IBID, 131.2

G) Benefits Derived from Exercise

"God designed that the living machinery should be in daily activity; for in this activity or motion is its preserving power.-- H. R.  IBID, 131.3
"By active exercise in the open air every day the liver, kidneys, and lungs also will be strengthened to perform their work.-- T., V. II, p. 533.  IBID, 131.4
"If invalids who can would engage in light, useful labor in the open air a portion of each day, they would find physical exercise one of God's appointed agents for the benefit of man.-- H. R.  IBID, 131.5
"If they worked intelligently, giving both mind and body a due share of exercise, ministers would not so readily succumb to disease.-- G. W., p.  173.  IBID, 132.1
"Healthy, active exercise is what you need. This will invigorate the mind.-- T., V. II, p. 413.  IBID, 132.2
" There will be increased vitality, which is so necessary to health.-- T., V. II, p. 529.  IBID, 132.3
"Not only will the organs of the body be strengthened by exercise, but the mind also will acquire strength and knowledge through the action of these organs.-- T., V. III, p. 77.  IBID, 132.4
" The more we exercise, the better will be the circulation of the blood.-- T., V. II, p. 525.  IBID, 132.5
" If physical exercise were combined with mental exertion, the blood would be quickened in its circulation, the action of the heart would be more perfect, impure matter would be thrown off, and new life and vigor would be experienced in every part of the body.-- T., V. III, p. 490.  IBID, 132.6
"The proper use of their physical strength, as well as of the mental powers, will equalize the circulation of the blood, and keep every organ of the living machinery in running order.-- S. T. on E., p. 352.  IBID, 132.7
"Judicious exercise will induce the blood to the surface, and thus relieve the internal organs. Brisk, yet not violent, exercise in the open air, with cheerfulness of spirits, will promote the circulation, giving a healthful glow to the skin, and sending the blood, vitalized by the pure air, to the extremities. -- T., V. II, p. 530. IBID, 132.8
"By judicious exercise they may expand the chest and strengthen the muscles. . . . By giving heed to proper instruction, by following health principles in regard to the expansion of the lungs and culture of the voice, our young men and women may become speakers that can be heard, and the exercise necessary to this accomplishment will prolong life.-- C. E., p. 132.  IBID, 133.1
"A farmer who is temperate in all his habits usually enjoys good health. His work is pleasant; and his vigorous exercise causes full, deep, and strong inspirations and exhalations, which expand the lungs and purify the blood, sending the warm current of life bounding through arteries and veins. . . . The student sits day after day in a close room, bending over his desk or table, his chest contracted, his lungs crowded. His brain is taxed to the utmost, while his body is inactive. He cannot take full, deep inspirations; his blood moves sluggishly; his feet are cold, his head hot. . . . Let them take regular exercise that will cause them to breathe deep and full, and they will soon feel that they have a new hold on life.--S. of T., 1886, No. 33.  IBID, 133.2
"The diseased stomach will find relief by exercise.--T., V. II, p. 530.  IBID, 133.3
"Exercise is important to digestion, and to a healthy condition of body and mind.--T., V. II, p. 413.  IBID,133.4
"Digestion will be promoted by physical exercise.--T., V. II, p. 569. IBID, 133.5
"Useful employment would bring into exercise the enfeebled muscles, enliven the stagnant blood in the system, and arouse the torpid liver to perform its work. The circulation of the blood would be equalized, and the entire system invigorated to overcome bad conditions.--H. R.  IBID, 134.1

H) Results of Lack of Exercise

" I frequently turn from the bedside of these self-made invalids, saying to myself, "Dying by inches, dying of indolence, a disease which no one but themselves can cure." --H. R.  IBID, 134.2
"Neglecting to exercise the entire body, or a portion of it, will bring on morbid conditions.--T., V. III, p. 76.  IBID, 134.3
" The bloom of health fades from their cheeks, and disease fastens upon them, because they are robbed of physical exercise, and their habits are perverted generally.--T., V. III, p. 158.  IBID,134.4
"Continued inactivity is one of the greatest causes of debility of body and feebleness of mind.-- T., V. II, p. 524.  IBID, 134.5
"Inaction of any of the organs of the body will be followed by decrease in size and strength of the muscles, and will cause the blood to flow sluggishly through the blood-vessels.--T., V. III, p. 76.  IBID, 134.6
"In what contrast to the habits of the active farmer are those of the student who neglects physical exercise. . . .  His blood moves sluggishly; his feet are cold; his head hot. How can such a person have health?--S. of T., 1886, No. 33.  IBID, 134.7
"The studied habit of shunning the air and avoiding exercise, closes the pores,--the little mouths through which the body breathes,--making it impossible

to throw off impurities through that channel. The burden of labor is thrown upon the liver, lungs, kidneys, etc., and these internal organs are compelled to do the work of the skin.--T., V. II, p. 524.  IBID, 134.8
" The blood is not enabled to expel the impurities as it would if active circulation were induced by exercise.--T., V. II, p. 529.  IBID, 135.1
" In some cases, want of exercise causes the muscles of the bowels to become enfeebled and shrunken, and these organs that have become enfeebled for want of use will be strengthened by exercise.--T., V. III, p. 78.  IBID, 135.2
"Moderate exercise every day will impart strength to the muscles, which without exercise become flabby and enfeebled.--T., V. II, p. 533.  IBID, 135.3
" If invalids would recover health, they should not discontinue physical exercise; for they will thus increase muscular weakness and general debility. Bind up the arm, and permit it to remain useless, even for a few weeks, then free it from its bondage, and you will discover that it is weaker than the one you had been using moderately during the same time. Inactivity produces the same effect upon the whole muscular system.--T., V. II, p. 529.  IBID, 135.4

Divine Antidote

Divine Antidote

On Genesis 3:15  we read: “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

What is this scripture speaking of? Not just enmity between man kind and the reptile--Snakes. In fact there is a great many folks who like them well enough to have them as pets. This I do not recommend for snakes have been know to attack men kind with it's deadly sting since the beginning of times. We should at the very least fear its presence. Awareness is the better word. DANGER!  This Scripture thou, speaks of something beyond the physical enmity. It speaks of spiritual separation.  It speaks of a promise that some day there would be a seed or descendent of Eve who would bring about a deadly would on the great serpent-the Devil who used the serpent to deceive and snare Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, thus transgressing God’s commandments and bringing a curse upon humanity.

This seed is none else than “Jesus Christ – The only begotten of the Father”(John 3:16).  The only antidote for the sinful nature we are born with, is Jesus Christ. The Son of the living God(St. John1:34; 3:18) He overcame the Devil, death and is alive forever more.(1Corinthians 15:1-57) Man can’t regenerate  him self, though we may improve in behavior, we can not transform our innermost nature .The words of Jesus: “you must be born again”(ST. John 3:3,5). Are the greatest facts in human history! To us is the promise: “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3:36   And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:14-17.

"Significance of Christ's Victory.--After His baptism, Christ was led of the Spirit into the wilderness. He had taken humanity upon Himself, and Satan boasted that he would overcome Him, as he had overcome the strong men of the past ages, and he assailed Him with the temptations that had caused man's downfall. It was in this world that the great conflict between Christ and Satan was to be decided. If the tempter could succeed in overcoming Christ in even one point, the world must be left to perish. Satan would have power to bruise the heel of the Son of God; but the seed of the woman was to bruise the serpent's head: Christ was to baffle the prince of the powers of darkness. For forty days Christ fasted in the wilderness. What was this for? Was there anything in the character of the Son of God that required such great humiliation and suffering? No, He was sinless. All this humiliation and keen anguish were endured for the sake of fallen man, and never can we comprehend the grievous character of the sin of indulging perverted appetite except as we comprehend the spiritual meaning of the long fast of the Son of God. Never can we understand the strength and bondage of appetite until we discern the character of the Saviour's conflict in overcoming Satan, and thus placing man on vantage ground, where, through the merit of the blood of Christ, he may be able to resist the powers of darkness, and overcome in his own behalf."  Temperance, 275.1
"After this long fast, Christ was in a famishing condition, and in His weakness Satan assailed Him with the fiercest temptations. "The devil said unto him, If Thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread." Satan represented himself as the messenger of God, claiming that God had seen the willingness of the Saviour to place His feet in the path of self-denial, and that He was not required to suffer further humiliation and pain, but might be released from the terrible conflict that was before Him as the Redeemer of the world. He tried to persuade Him that God designed only to test His fidelity, that now His loyalty was fully manifest, and He was at liberty to use His divine power to relieve His necessities. But Christ discerned the temptation, and declared, "It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."  IBID, 275.2
" When tempted to the unlawful gratification of appetite, you should remember the example of Christ, and stand firm, overcoming as Christ overcame. You should answer, saying, "Thus saith the Lord," and in this way settle the question forever with the prince of darkness. If you parley with temptation, and use your own words, feeling self-sufficient, full of self-importance, you will be overcome. The weapons which Christ used were the words of God, "It is written;" and if you wield the sword of the Spirit, you also may come off victorious through the merit of your Redeemer."  IBID, 276.1

Satan More Successful With Man.--The three leading temptations by which man is beset were endured by the Son of God. He refused to yield to the enemy on the point of appetite, ambition, and the love of the world. But Satan is more successful when assailing the human heart. Through inducing men to yield to his temptations, he can get control of them. And through no class of temptations does he achieve greater success than through those addressed to the appetite. If he can control the appetite, he can control the whole man."  Temperance, 276.2
"There are but two powers that control the minds of men-- the power of God and the power of Satan. Christ is man's Creator and Redeemer; Satan is man's enemy and destroyer. He who has given himself to God will build himself up for the glory of God, in body, soul, and spirit. He who has given himself to the control of Satan tears himself down. Many a man sells reason for a glass of liquor, and becomes a menace to his family, his neighborhood, and his country. His children hide when he comes home, and his discouraged wife fears to meet him, for he greets her with cruel blows. He spends his money for strong drink, while his wife and children suffer for the necessities of life."  IBID, 276.3
"Satan leads the victims of appetite to deeds of violence. The liquor drinker is a man of fierce and easily excited passions, and any trivial excuse is made a cause for quarrel; and when under the influence of passion, the drunkard will not spare his best friend. How often do we hear of murder and deeds of violence, and find that their chief source is the liquor habit."  IBID, 277.1
